I recently took over a very nervous group of new crocheters. (Did I volunteer?) They desperately wanted to finish a project before Christmas. Oh dear. But I found your little design and they've almost finished theirs. I wish you could see the joy they've expressed in achieving your pattern as their first completed item.

I made rings out of duct tape. Lay a piece of green( it hides best) duct tape about 7 inches long sticky side up. Fold up about 1/8 th inch from the bottom. Roll up the I sticky section as close to 1/8 th inch onto the sticky above. Continue til you have a long snake. Join the snake into a loop with a piece of duct tape. I too had a problem finding the right size rings in the store.

I found this pattern about two years ago and every single year I make at least a handful of these ornaments. I also use a smaller plastic ring and a 2.00 crochet hook and turned this pattern into a Christmas Wreath broach/pin. Thank you for coming up with this pattern! It's amazing!

Unknown said...

I was wondering what the final product diameter size was??

You can find plastic or metal rings online, of course, but in a pinch, go to your local hardward store and purchase "O" rings - usually in plumbing department.

So, immediately following making your snowflake pattern for which, like a crazy person (who didn't want to go to the store to buy what I didn't have on hand), I used 1/2" rounds, a C (2-2.75mm) hook, and size 10 thread, I then made this one!! I only had 08 green thread but did it anyway and IT IS SO CUTE! Love it, thank you :D

i use the plastic rings off of can biscuits, just cut them apart & they work great!

I don't know what was said before because, honestly, I didn't read through all the comments, but I had a few suggestions for this awesome project.

Do you know what I found was a great (and cheap!) base for these? Shower curtain rings. You can get a dozen for about $2 and they are typically 2" wide. Just be sure to use the simplest rings you can find.

ALSO, if you cut a 2" square of clear acrylic / plastic and a 2" square of white cardboard, then paste them together on 3 sides (leaving the top open), then paste THAT to the back of the ring, you can create a lovely little picture frame-ornament.

Lastly, lots of things can be used for the red ribbon/bow. I am not a good bow maker so I used cut pieces of fabric and bits of stiffened ribbon (not sure what you call it but it has wires in it and makes it much easier to keep its shape). Also, if you have little tiny baubles, you can add those around the wreath, too.

These are great!! They make up fast and easy. I have my daughter and her PTO/school workers saving them for me,,and my son's co-workers are handing him the rings off their Gatorade bottles. Planning on making as many as possible by next Christmas. Thank you!!!

Hi , I'm a beginner crotchetier, can I ask what Sk in sc stands for?

Unknown said...

I just made two right as I seen the pattern but I didn't have rings because I couldn't find them so I just chained 15 and slip stitched in the first chain for anyone who would like to know. I believe they would look neater in a plastic ring but I still think mine are fine for gifts but not to sell to people.
